Coarse perennial herb 1.5–2.4 m high; stems erect, leafy, sparsely pubescent or glabrous.. Stem leaves sessile, elliptic, narrowly elliptic or lanceolate, 20–27 cm long, 3–5 cm wide, base rounded and semi-amplexicaul to tapered and broadly expanded, very shortly narrowly decurrent, margins regularly dentate, apex attenuate, acute, glabrous above, sparsely minutely pubescent beneath.. Capitula radiate, erect, numerous in a copiously branched terminal corymb to 90 cm long; involucre cylindrical, 9–12 mm long, 5–6 mm in diameter, glabrous except for a few glandular hairs at the base; bracts of calyculus 8–12, lanceolate, 3.5–8 mm long, shortly pubescent especially on the margins; inner phyllaries 12–16, 9–11 mm long, glabrous, bearded at the apex.. Ray florets 7–8, yellow, corolla tube 5–7 mm long, glandular-hairy or glabrous, rays 12–13 mm long, 3.5–5 mm wide, 4–6-veined; disc florets yellow, corollas 9–10 mm long, expanded above the middle, glabrous, lobes 1.5–2 mm long.. Achenes 5–5.5 mm long, very sparsely hairy, many-ribbed; pappus 8–9 mm long, white.
