Characteristics

Perennial woody herb or soft shrub, erect or scrambling, often scandent, stems 1–5 m long, angular, green, sparsely to densely pubescent.. Leaves spreading, triangular, rhombic, ovate-triangular or triangular-lanceolate, 4.4–9 cm long, 1.3–5.2 cm wide, base cuneate, subtruncate or cordate, margins coarsely apiculate-dentate or bidentate, apex acute to subacute and minutely apiculate, often with 2 or rarely 4 much smaller ± retrorsely-directed oblong lateral lobes on the petiole/winged base, pubescent to finely tomentose especially on veins beneath, scattered-pubescent above, narrowly petiolate with the petiole auriculate at the base.. Capitula radiate, numerous in divaricately-branched terminal corymbs; stalks of individual capitula pilose or arachnoid, often glabrescent; involucre cylindrical, 4.5–5.5 mm long, 2.5–3 mm in diameter; bracts of calyculus 3–4, lanceolate, 1–2.5 mm long, ciliate on margins or at apex or ± glabrous; phyllaries 8–13, green, sometimes tinged reddish, 4–5 mm long, pubescent or glabrous.. Ray florets 5–8, corolla tube 1.7–2.5 mm long, hairy at apex, ray bright yellow, 4–9 mm long, 1.7–2.2 mm wide, 4-veined; disc florets orange-yellow, corolla 4.5–5.8 mm long, tube expanded from just below the middle, glabrous or with a very few hairs, lobes 0.5–0.7 mm long.. Achenes 2–2.5 mm long, hairy on ribs or glabrous; pappus 4.5–5 mm long.
