Perennial herb with several leaf tufts at the crown, crown fibrous from old leaf bases, flowering stem simple or sparingly forked above into the compound inflorescence, leafy, glabrous or with sparse cobwebby hairs in the leaf axils. Leaves mostly radical, up to c. 18 x 0.8 cm, blade oblong, apex gradually acute, base tapering into a broadly winged petiolar region expanded and half-clasping at the base, a few cottony-cobwebby hairs sometimes here, otherwise glabrous, margins thickened, remotely and obscurely callose-denticulate, cauline leaves similar but sessile, broad-based, half-clasping, becoming lanceolate upwards and passing into acuminate bracts. Beads radiate, solitary or 2-4 on long nearly nude peduncles corymbosely arranged. Involucre campanulate, bracts c. 18-20, c. 8.5 mm long, about equalling the disc, calyculus bracts very few, lanceolate, about half as long as the involucre, glabrous except for ciliate margins. Bays c. 13, they and the disc bright yellow. Achenes not seen, ovaries pilose with long white hairs.
