Characteristics

Perennial herb, subscapigerous with creeping, mat-forming stems and flowering stems 4–30 cm high, basally decumbent, then erect, laxly arachnoid or sparsely pilose, glabrescent.. Basal and lower stem leaves sessile, somewhat succulent, grey-green, oblanceolate to elliptic, 1–8 cm long (including 0.25–1.6 cm long petioloid base), 0.3–1.6 cm wide, tapered into a basally slightly expanded but exauriculate petioloid base, margins slightly to strongly serrate or crenulate or quite deeply pinnately-lyrately lobulate with few-dentate obtuse lobes, apex obtuse, apiculate, sparsely pilose to almost glabrous; upper stem leaves few, smaller, sessile, lanceolate, with ± auriculate base.. Capitula radiate, erect, terminal, solitary or rarely paired; stalks of the individual capitula arachnoid or sparsely so, slightly thickened below the capitulum; involucre bright green, 6.5–9 mm long, 4–5.5 mm in diameter; bracts of calyculus 6–12, lanceolate, 2–5 mm long, often thinly arachnoid, sometimes ciliate; phyllaries 18–22, 6–8.5 mm long, thinly arachnoid to glabrous.. Ray florets 16–22, brilliant yellow but purple in bud, tube 4 mm long, hairy or sparsely so, rays 7–8.5 x 2–2.7 mm, 4-veined; disc florets deeper yellow, corolla 5.5–6.2 mm long, expanded above the middle, glabrous, lobes 0.5–0.7 mm long.. Achenes 2.5 mm long, ribbed, hairy in the grooves; pappus 5–6 mm long, white.
