Shrubby perennial herb 10–120 cm high; stem much branched, white-tomentose to slightly arachnoid and glabrescent.. Leaves greyish green to silvery white, sessile, oblanceolate-linear, linear, narrowly elliptic or narrowly lanceolate, 2.8–8 cm long, 0.25–6 cm wide (excluding lobes when present), auriculate and semi-amplexicaul at the base, margins remotely serrulate or denticulate to narrowly pinnately paucilobulate, apex obtuse to acute and apiculate, thinly arachnoid to glabrous above, arachnoid-tomentose (except sometimes for midrib) beneath.. Capitula radiate, erect in short-to long-stalked usually lax terminal corymbs; stalks of the individual capitula lanate to slightly arachnoid-glabrescent; involucre cylindrical or suburceolate-campanulate, 5–7 mm long, 3–5 mm in diameter, lanate or arachnoid in the lower half or at the base; bracts of calyculus 8–18, lanceolate, 1–2.5 mm long, acute, imbricate, dark-tipped; phyllaries 10–14 or 18–22, 4–6 mm long, glabrous, dark-tipped..
