Perennial subscapigerous herb 12–60 cm high; stems 1–3, erect, or ± decumbent near base, flecked dingy purple, shortly glandular-hairy or glabrous.. Basal leaves sessile, oblanceolate to narrowly oblanceolate-linear, 6.5–16 cm long (including 3–6.5 cm long petioloid base), 0.4–1.7 cm wide, attenuate into fibrous petioloid base, margins remotely coarsely to obscurely dentate, apex subobtuse, shortly acuminate-apiculate; stem leaves sessile, lanceolate, oblong-lanceolate or linear, 3.2–5.5 cm long, 0.3–0.6 cm wide, little expanded at the base, margins coarsely remotely serrate to entire, apex acute or attenuate; all leaves glabrous or sparsely pubescent on margins and mid-rib near base, glaucous beneath.. Capitula radiate, erect, 1–15 in terminal and upper axillary, usually lax corymbs; inflorescence bracts and stalk of individual heads glandular-hairy or pilose; involucre cylindrical, 7–9 mm long, 3–5 mm in diameter; bracts of calyculus 2–6, lanceolate, 1.5–6 mm long, remote, shortly pilose, especially on margins; phyllaries 10–16, pilose or sometimes glabrous, 6–8 mm long, brownish and bearded at the apex.. Ray florets golden yellow, 6–9, tube 4.5 mm long, glabrous, rays 7–9 mm long, 2–2.5 mm wide, 4–7-veined; disc florets yellow, corolla 5.5–7 mm long, expanded above the middle, glabrous, lobes 0.8–1 mm long.. Achenes 2.7–3.5 mm long, shortly hairy, many-ribbed; pappus 5.5–6.5 mm long, white.
