Characteristics

A bushy annual herb up to 1.8 m tall, stems woody at the base, sometimes thinly cobwebby, minutely glandular, leafy throughout. Leaves up to 15 x 4 cm, but often only half that size, becoming smaller upwards, lanceolate, apex acute to acuminate, base narrowed, petiole-like, sometimes slightly eared, sometimes decurrent, margins revolute, entire, sharply serrate or more deeply pinnately divided, upper surface smooth or scabrid, lower thinly white-felted. Heads radiate, many on short bracteate peduncles arranged in spreading corymbose panicles. Involucre campanulate, c. 4 x 3 mm, bracts c. 16-20; 4(-5) mm long, glabrous, keeled, nerves 1-3, resinous, calyculus of several small bracts. Rays c. 8, they and the disc canary yellow. Achenes 1.5 mm long, cylindric, striate, slightly angled, minutely puberulous.
