Characteristics

Perennial herb, 60–300 cm high; stems pubescent to glabrous; rhizome creeping?.. Basal leaves sessile with petioloid base, lanceolate or oblanceolate to oblong, 7.5–78 cm long (including an up to 20 cm petioloid base), 1.6–18 cm wide, base of basal leaves gradually attenuate into narrowly winged petioloid base, that of stem leaves cordate and semi-amplexicaul, not or somewhat expanded and semi-amplexicaul at the base, margins dentate to coarsely bidentate, apex acute to rounded and sometimes obscurely acuminate, coriaceous to chartaceous, thinly pubescent above and especially on mid-rib beneath to glabrous.. Capitula radiate, erect, numerous in a congested terminal cymes; stalks of the individual capitula sparsely pilose or arachnoid-pubescent to glabrous; involucre cylindrical, 7–9 mm long, 4–5 mm in diameter, slightly arachnoid or glandular-pubescent at base; bracts of calyculus 4–8, yellow-green with brown tips, lanceolate, 3–7 mm long, glabrous or sparsely pubescent at margins and/or base; phyllaries 10–14, yellow-green with brown tips, 5.5–9 mm long, glabrous or sparsely pubescent.. Ray florets 6–8, bright yellow, corolla tube 3–5.5 mm long, glabrous or glandular-pubescent, rays 7–9.5 mm long, 3–4 mm wide, 4–8-veined; disc florets somewhat darker yellow, corolla 6–7.5 mm long, tube gradually expanded above the middle, glabrous, lobes 0.8–1.3 mm long.. Achenes 4.7 mm long, glabrous, ribbed; pappus 6–7.5 mm long, white.
