Perennial herb with tufts of annual stems from a stout, elongated, woody stock, stems up to c. 60 cm tall, simple below, branching above into a corymbose panicle, glabrous or thinly glandular-pubescent, viscid, leafy. Radical leaves up to 20 x 7 cm, up to one third of this petiolar, bipinnatisect or bipinnatifid, lobes linear or lanceolate, acute, margins sometimes toothed, stem leaves similar but tending to become sessile, often ear-clasping, all glabrous or sparsely glandular-pubescent, viscid. Heads discoid, turbinate, c. 10 x 5 mm, few to many in spreading corymbose panicles. Involucral bracts c. 8-12, 6-8 mm long with mostly sessile glands, sometimes a few hairs as well, viscid, calyculus bracts very few, short. Flowers white with mauve anthers. Achenes cylindric, ribbed, hispid between the ribs.
