Characteristics

Perennial herb (Lisowski says annual), 40–120 cm high, (?precocious); stems erect, slightly arachnoid.. Stem leaves sessile, lanceolate to oblanceolate, 4–10 cm long, 0.4–0.8 cm wide, attenuate to an exauriculate base, margins denticulate, apex obtuse and apiculate, glabrous except for slightly arachnoid midrib.. Capitula erect, radiate, numerous in a copious terminal corymb; involucre cylindrical, 5 mm long, 3.5–4 mm in diameter, almost glabrous; bracts of calyculus 6–7, 1.5–2.5 mm long, glabrous; phyllaries 12–13, 4.5–5 mm long, glabrous.. Ray florets 9–12, yellow, corolla tube 3.2 mm long, glabrous, rays 3–6.5 mm long, 3 mm wide, 4-veined; disc florets yellow, corolla 5–6 mm long, tube gradually expanded above the middle, glabrous, lobes 1 mm long.. Achenes unknown, but ovary of disc florets 1.2 mm long, glabrous; pappus 4–5 mm long.
