Characteristics

Perennial herb up to c. 30 cm tall, stock stout, woody, roots narrowly fusiform, flowering stems one or several from the crown, simple below the inflorescence, thinly glandular-pilose. Leaves mostly radical, pressed flat on the ground, up to c. 5 x 4 cm, subrotund to broadly spathulate, or rhomboid, apex obtuse or rounded, narrowed below to a very short, broad, flat, petiole-like half-clasping base, margins entire or obscurely toothed, veins ascending-spreading from the base, both surfaces thinly pilose, some of the hairs gland-tipped; stem leaves much reduced, few, distant, oblong to lanceolate. Heads discoid, 3-5 corymbosely arranged on long, nude, glandular-pubescent peduncles. Involucre campanulate, c. 8 x 10 mm, bracts c. 16-20, 6 mm long, equalling the disc, glandular-pilose, calyculus bracts 1 or 2. Flowers whitish or dull yellow, ageing brown, sometimes tips of lobes dull blue. Achenes c. 2.5 mm long, ribbed, white hispid between the ribs.
