Perennial herb, 40–100 cm high; stems flexuous, erect or straggling, weak-stemmed, wiry, tinged reddish, obscurely arachnoid, glabrescent.. Leaves dark green above, often bright purple when old beneath, petiolate, triangular-lanceolate, 3.5–11.5 cm long, 1.1–5.4 cm wide, base cordate or subtruncate to cuneate, margins coarsely remotely sinuate-dentate, apex attenuate, shortly acuminate-apiculate, glabrous except for sparse arachnoid indumentum on mid-rib beneath; petiole unwinged, almost glabrous, 0.5–11 cm long, absent in uppermost leaves.. Capitula radiate, erect, 3–12 in divaricate terminal and axillary corymbs; stalks of the individual capitula slightly arachnoid; involucre broadly cylindrical, 6.5 mm long, 4.5–5.5 mm in diameter; bracts of calyculus reflexing, 6–12, lanceolate, 2.5–6 mm long, slightly arachnoid, acute; phyllaries 8–12, 6–6.5 mm long, sparsely arachnoid, glabrescent, shortly tapered, apically bearded.. Ray florets 5–8, bright golden yellow, corolla tube 3 mm long, glabrous, rays 6–8 mm long, 2.5–3 mm wide, 6–7-veined; disc florets yellow, corolla 7 mm long, abruptly expanded above the middle, glabrous, lobes 1 mm long.. Achenes 3.5 mm long, glabrous, ribbed; pappus 6–6.5 mm long, white.
