Characteristics

Perennial herb with tufts of annual stems from a woody stock, stems up to 60 cm tall, often branching from near the base, leafy, stems, leaves, inflorescence branches and involucral bracts all glandular-pubescent, viscid. Radical leaves up to 20 x 4 cm, up to one third of this petiolar, pinnatifid, the lobes more or less oblong, margins coarsely toothed or lobed, sometimes denticulate as well, stem leaves similar but tending to become sessile, often ear-clasping. Heads discoid, turbinate, c. 10 x 5 mm, few to many in spreading corymbose panicles. Involucral bracts c. 8-12, 6-8 mm long, calyculus bracts very few, short. Flowers pale mauve, white or deep yellow. Achenes cylindric, ribbed, hispid between the ribs.
