Stem leaves ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 7–21 cm long, 3–8 cm wide, cordate at the base into a broadly winged, auriculate petioloid base to 7 cm long in lower leaves, upper leaves sessile, auriculate, slightly narrowed above the auricles or semi-amplexicaul in uppermost leaves, margins strongly dentate, apex shortly obtusely acuminate, apiculate; all leaves firmly membraneous, glabrous above, moderately to thinly arachnoid-pubescent beneath.. Capitula radiate, erect, very numerous in copious, congested terminal corymbs; stalks of the individual capitula sparsely shortly pubescent; involucre cylindrical, 5–6.5 mm long, 3–4 mm in diameter, slightly woolly at the base; bracts of calyculus 3–7, lanceolate to linear, narrow, 1.5–4 mm long, ± arachnoid or glabrous except at the margins, bearded and sometimes slightly expanded at the apex; phyllaries 7–12, 5–6 mm long, glabrous, shortly tapered to bearded apex..
