Characteristics

Herbaceous perennial or subshrub, erect, to 1.5 m high, glabrous but with the ovary pubescent. Leaves 8–12 cm long including a terete petiole 10–20 mm long; stipules acicular, caducous; leaflets in 6–10 pairs spaced 10–15 mm apart, lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, 20–50 mm long, 4–9 mm wide, increasing distally, acute and acuminate; gland 1, near the base of the petiole, sessile, broader than tall. Inflorescence subumbellate, of 6–10 flowers, in upper axils; peduncle 20–35 mm long; pedicels 12–20 mm long; bracts usually caducous. Petals to 12 mm long. Fertile stamens 6, with 3 adaxial and 1 abaxial staminodes; filaments c. 2 mm long; fertile anthers c. 3 mm long but slightly unequal, with recurved beaks. Pod cylindric, 3–5 cm long, 6–9 mm diam., slightly curved, entire. Seeds dull.
