Characteristics

An erect shrub 0.5-1 m tall, 1.5 m across. Main stem 20 mm in diameter. Leaves ascending, 40-60 mm long, 15-30 mm wide, with grey hairs, dissected, with 15-30 tips; stalk 10-20 mm long. Flowerhead globose, 25-30 mm across, up to 5 per branch, comprising a solitary headlet of 20-30 flowers; flowerhead stalk 20-50 mm long, with crispy hairs. Involucral bracts ovate. Perianth carmine, with spreading, long, white hairs. Style hairy in lower third, curving strongly inwards, 12-14 mm long, red. Pollen presenter 1 mm long, acorn-shaped, with a narrow neck.
