Characteristics

A prostrate or creeping shrub in mats up to 2 m across, up to 1 m tall, with a single main stem. Branches laxly drooping, hairy. Leaves pointing vertically from a horizontal stem, 40-90 mm long, 10-45 mm wide, with shaggy grey hairs or hairless, stout, dissected, with 10-18 rounded tips with fine points; stalk 20-40 mm long. Flowerhead globose, 20-30 mm across, 3-18 per branch, comprising a solitary headlet of 12-18 flowers; flowerhead stalk 15-90 mm long, often curving upwards from the downcurved branches. Involucral bracts ovate, dense, margin occasionally hairy. Perianth pink to brown, with short, adpressed, silky hairs. Style hairless, curving inward, 12-14 mm long. Pollen presenter 1 mm long, club-shaped. Flowers: July to October, mainly August and September.
