Characteristics

An erect shrub 0.8-1.5 m tall, 1 m across. Main stem 30 mm in diameter. Leaves curved upwards, 35-60 mm long, 15-20 mm wide, with dull grey, crispy hairs, dissected, with 12-15 rounded tips with fine points; stalk 15-25 mm long. Flowerhead globose, 15-20 mm across, 1-3 per branch, comprising a solitary headlet of 20-30 flowers, with a sweet scent; flowerhead stalk 20-60 mm long, hairy. Involucral bracts lanceolate. Perianth silver-grey to purple, with adpressed, silver, silky hairs. Style hairless, curving inward, 9 mm long. Pollen presenter 1 mm long, linear to thread-like, knee-bent at base. Flowers: July to October.
