Characteristics

An erect to spreading shrub 0.6-1 m tall, 0.5 m across. Main stem 15 mm in diameter. Leaves erect, 20-50 mm long, 15-25 mm wide, fan-shaped, with grey hairs, dissected, with 45-60 tips rounded and calloused or with fine points; stalk 8-15 mm long. Flowerhead globose, 25-35 mm across, 1-5 per branch, comprising a solitary headlet of 15-30 flowers, with a sweet scent; flowerhead stalk 30-70 mm long, hairy. Involucral bracts ovate. Perianth carmine, with long, spreading, white hairs. Style hairy in lower third, curving inward, 8-12 mm long. Pollen presenter 2 mm long, club-shaped, knee-bent at base. Flowers: August to December.
