Characteristics

Erect herb, 60–120 cm. high; stems quadrangular, sulcate, more or less densely pubescent with brownish hairs.. Leaves generally heteromorphic, lower ones large, long-petiolate (8–20 cm.) ovate-cordate or 3-lobed, 8–13 cm. long, 9–18 cm. broad, cordate at the base, upper leaves smaller, 0.5–5 cm. petiolate, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 2–5 cm. long, 0.7–4 cm. broad, sub-truncate or cuneate at the base, inconspicuously to coarsely serrate on the margin, acuminate at the apex, pubescent on both sides more densely so below and on upper leaves; mucilage glands present but not conspicuous.. Flowers pale pink or pinkish mauve; bracteoles conspicuous, pale brown, rather membranous, narrowly lanceolate, pubescent.. Calyx ultimately deciduous; lobes narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, rather similar to the bracteoles, about 5 mm. long.. Corolla thinly pubescent and glandular outside, 2.5–2.8 cm. long, about 1 cm. broad at the throat.. Filaments glabrous.. Ovary adpressed-pubescent, narrowly oblong, about 6 mm. long, gradually narrowed into the style.. Capsule shortly pubescent, oblong-quadrangular, 4-grooved, 2.7–3.1 cm. long (incl. beak), about 0.5 cm. broad, unilaterally gibbous at the base, rather abruptly narrowed into a short beak at the apex up to 5 mm. long.. Seeds not winged, about 3 mm. long, 2 mm. broad, faces foveolate, sides deeply pitted, margins sharply angled.
