Characteristics

Closely related to S. speciosa, but much less pubescent, the stem, leaf-rhachis and inflorescence-rhachis being sparsely pilose, the leaflets glabrous above and sparsely appressed pilose beneath, the pedicels glabrous or almost so.. The flowers are somewhat smaller; receptacle 2 mm., calyx-tube 5 mm., teeth 2 mm. long.. Blade of standard 17–21 mm. long, 17–21 mm. wide; blade of wing 17–20 mm. long; blade of keel 10–12 mm. long, the tooth at its base forming an angle of 35°–70° with the 10 mm. long claw (fig. 49/7, p. 332).. Filament-sheath 17–21 mm. long.. The ovary is glabrous but the style pubescent.. The pod resembles that of S. speciosa but is 5 mm. wide and 2 mm. thick at the sutures.. Seeds kidney-shaped, ± 3 mm. long, 2 mm. wide and 1 mm. thick; hilum circular, 0.5 mm. in diameter.
