Characteristics

Standard yellow speckled with dark purple on the outer face, 7–12 × 6–9 mm, rounded, the blade usually wider than long, apically emarginate, sometimes distinctly cordate at the base, the appendages narrowly wedge-shaped without free tips and ± truncate at the apex; wings 6.5–11 × 2.5–3.5 mm, the upper basal tooth rather variable, short, blunt, and horizontal or acute and down-turned, occasionally almost lacking, the blades with lamellate sculpturing in the upper basal one-third to one-half on the outer face; keel 6.5–10 × 3–5 mm, the claw usually longer than the blade, the tooth narrow, acuminate and horizontal or wider, acute and ± downward pointing.

Leaves 2.8–24.5 cm long; petioles 0.3–1.1(1.8) cm long; leaflets in 8–44 pairs, 0.45–2.5(2.8) cm × 1.5–4.5(5.5) mm, oblong, apiculate, distinctly asymmetrical at the base, entire, glabrous except when very young; stipels slightly hooked, usually persistent; stipules 2–5(8) mm long, narrowly triangular to linear-lanceolate, caducous, sparsely hairy on the margins.
Raceme 13–14.3 cm long, 1–17-flowered; peduncle 2.1–4.3 cm long, sparsely pubescent near the base only, rarely totally glabrous, sometimes very slightly aculeate; pedicels 3–5(8) mm long, glabrous; bracts and bracteoles linear to linear-lanceolate, sparsely pubescent on the margins or glabrous, caducous, the bracts c.2.5 mm long, the bracteoles 1.5 mm long.
Pod pale green to straw-coloured, usually with a well-marked dark blotch above the septal area, (5.4)8–17.2 cm × 2–3.5 mm, held ± erect, linear to slightly falcate, torulose, shortly beaked, glabrous, (7)12–29(31)-seeded; septa 5–7 mm apart.
Seeds pale to dark brown, unmottled, 3.5–4 × 1.5–2 mm, 1–1.25 mm thick, ellipsoid; subcentral hilum in small circular pit.
Calyx 2.5–5 × 3–4.5 mm, the teeth 0.5–1 mm long, acute, somewhat woolly at the margins.
Ovary 17–29(31)-ovulate, glabrous; style glabrous (or very rarely with a few hairs).
Stems glabrous, often slightly aculeate (occasionally the prickles very evident).
