Characteristics

Leaves (2)6.4–9.5(12.3) cm long, the rachis glabrous or occasionally with scattered hairs; petioles 3–7 mm long; leaflets in 5–20(29) pairs, 3.5–10 × 1.5–3 mm, oblong, rounded to slightly emarginate atthe apex, apiculate, asymmetrical at the base, entire, glabrous or with minute hairs scattered along the margins, on the midvein beneath and on the petiolules, punctate above with minute dark dots; stipules 3–5 mm long, linear-triangular to linear-lanceolate, caducous to persistent.

Standard yellow with strong purple to reddish veining on the outer face, 1–1.2 × 0.85–1.1 cm, suborbicular, apically emarginate, the appendages small, triangular, divergent and without free tips; wings yellow, 1–1.1 cm × 3.25–4 mm, with an upper basal tooth and with lamellate sculpturing in upper basal half on outer face; keel yellow (slightly paler than wings) with some purple striping on the beak, 1.1–1.2 cm × 4–6 mm, the limb with a ± horizontal acuminate tooth.
Annual herb, up to 2.5 m high, not armed with prickles. Leaves 8-20-foliolate, glabrous, leaflets 9.0 x 2.5 mm. Flowers: in a raceme, 5-7-flowered; axis of inflorescence > 20 mm long, including peduncle of over 5 mm long; corolla with standard up to 15 mm long, yellowish green with continuously dark purple veins; Jan.-Mar. Pods ± 40-60 x 25 mm across seeds, markedly torulose, not winged.
Pod (4.6)6–8.5 cm × 1.5–2.75 mm, linear to slightly falcate, moniliform, rostrate, stipitate, held ± erect, glabrous, 7–12-seeded; septa 5–7 mm apart; valves with reticulate venation in central area above seeds, the margins developing a slightly raised ridge on drying which tapers out towards the septa.
Racemes 1.6–9 cm long, (2)5–7(10)-flowered; peduncle 1.5–3.9 cm long, glabrous; pedicels 4–10 mm long, glabrous; bracts 1.5–3(4) mm long, linear, persistent; bracteoles 1.5–3 mm long, linear, persistent, located below the receptacle.
Calyx 3–4 × 2.5–4 mm; tube glabrous; teeth 0.5–1 mm long, subulate, sparsely woolly on the inner surface and at the tips.
Seeds brown or olive-green mottled blackish, 3 × 1.75 mm, 1.75–2 mm thick; small hilum in central circular pit.
Ovary and style glabrous, 10–13-ovulate, ovules widely spaced.
Erect annual herb or spindly subshrub (0.6)1.5(2) m tall.
