Corolla rather large; tube funnel-shaped to campanulate, constricted at the base, thickly silky outside, glabrous inside except for a densely barbate portion at base in the constriction; lobes 5, short and broad, overlapping to the left.
Flowers hermaphrodite, in 1–several-flowered inflorescences mostly appearing axillary (actually terminal on short spurs) on one side of the stem at successive nodes or rarely appearing terminal (TAB. 75/5), often ± sessile.
Ovary obconic, 2(3)-celled; ovules numerous, immersed in vertical rows on the 2 placentas; pollen presenter clavate, sulcate, scarcely separating into 2 lobes, included in the corolla tube.
Calyx tube turbinate, sometimes ribbed; limb-tube short; lobes 5, rather large, obtuse, contorted and overlapping to the right.
Leaves petiolate, opposite, mostly thinly coriaceous; stipules rather large, oblong or elliptic, obtuse, deciduous.
Anthers ± sessile, inserted in the throat of the corolla; pollen grains single.
Fruit oblong-ellipsoid, many-seeded; seeds reticulate and wavy-rugulose.
Scandent shrubs or lianes.
