Characteristics

Herb, annual, crisped-pubescent below, glandular above. Stem erect or ascending, 1–several-branched from base, 15–25 cm high. Leaves 15–32 mm long, 5–9 mm wide; basal leaves petiolate, ± oblong-spathulate; petiole to 15 mm long; upper leaves sessile, oblong-ovate to elliptic, acute to obtuse. Inflorescence 1–several-flowered; bracts herbaceous. Pedicels 5–20 mm long. Calyx cylindrical, becoming clavate in fruit, 14–18 (–20) mm long, 10-veined; veins glandular-pilose, eglandular-puberulent between; calyx lobes triangular-ovate, acute to obtuse, to 20% of calyx length. Petal limb 5–7 mm long, rose red, entire to subemarginate. Styles 3. Capsule ovoid to subglobose, 5–8.5 mm long, with 6 teeth; carpophore 6–8 mm long, glabrous. Seeds reniform-discoid, 0.9–1.2 mm diam., dark brown, faces deeply concave, bluntly tuberculate; rim deeply grooved.
