Characteristics

Herb, annual, eglandular-hispid. Stems erect, simple or sparsely branched, to 40 cm high. Leaves sessile or subpetiolate, 15–45 mm long, 2–10 mm wide; lower leaves oblanceolate and obtuse; upper leaves narrowly oblong to linear and acute. Inflorescence racemose; branches 1–several-flowered; bracts herbaceous. Pedicels short to absent. Calyx ellipsoidal, becoming broadly ovoid in fruit, 11–14 mm long, 10-veined, coarsely reticulate, rather densely eglandular long-pilose; calyx lobes 50–65% calyx length, linear to linear-lanceolate. Petal limb narrowly oblong, 2.5–4 mm long, pink, deeply bifid; lobes broadly linear. Styles 3. Capsule subglobose, attenuate above, 7–10 mm long, with 6 erect teeth; carpophore 0.5–2 mm long, puberulent. Seeds reniform, 0.6–0.8 mm long, brownish or reddish grey, bluntly tuberculate; dorsal edge flat to ± grooved, but not winged.
