Characteristics

Rhizome short, subspherical.. Roots not tuberous in any specimens seen.. Leaves (mature not seen) narrowly elliptic to narrowly obovate, apex acute, aristate, base cuneate; ligule brown, membranous, to 5 mm. or more long; sheaths sulcate, probably forming a pseudostem.. Flowers appearing before the leaves, ± 6 in each short congested inflorescence; floral bracts scarious, glabrous, chestnut-brown, narrowly ovate, to 4.5 × 1 cm.. Calyx tubular, 3-7 cm. long, with 3 obtuse apical teeth 3-5 mm. long, split at one side to about one-quarter of its length.. Corolla tube 3.5-13 cm. long; petals narrowly oblong to narrowly elliptic, abruptly acuminate, 4.4-6 × 0.7-1 cm., usually about two-thirds of the length of the dried labellum.. Labellum white with 2 central yellow marks, 6.5-9 × 7.5-9.5 cm. overall, 3-lobed; lateral lobes rhomboid, obtuse, 3.5-5 × 2.3-4 cm.; central lobe broadly triangular, deeply emarginate at the apex, 4-6 × 5.5-8.5 cm.. Stamen (fig. 3/3) obovate, obtuse, ± 3.5 × 0.6 cm.; anther basal, ± 1 cm. long.. Ovary oblong, ± 8 mm. long.. Fruit and seeds unknown.
