Characteristics

Robust, erect or decumbent herb or dwarf shrub, up to 1.75 m high. Leaves pinnate. Leaflets ovate, in 6-12 opposite pairs, asymmetric at base; upper surface glaucous green; lower surface paler; fringed with long adnate hairs, stipulate. Stipules conspicuous, with 2-auricled appendage at base, one ear rounded and short, the other linear and longer, persistent. Inflorescences short, dense, axillary, scorpioid cymes; bracts entire, scarious, brownish, caducous, with persistent bracteoles below calyx. Flowers yellow with maroon on outer part of standard petal. Flowering time Nov.-Mar. Pod enclosed within accrescent calyx, jointed.
