Leaves sessile, succulent or subsucculent, crowded towards the apex of the stem, dark green to grey-green, often with ± purple-tinged or reddish midrib, obovate to oblanceolate, 10–20 cm long, 3.2–9.2 cm wide, cuneate or attenuate-decurrent onto wide exauriculate petioloid base, margins entire, apex obtuse to rounded, minutely broadly apiculate, glabrous.. Capitula discoid, numerous in copious long-stalked terminal cymes of congested subumbelliform corymbs; inflorescence branches often reddish-purple, slender, bracteolate, 9–15 mm long; involucre cylindrical, 8–10 mm long, 3–5 mm in diameter; bracts of calyculus 1–3, lanceolate, 1.5–2 mm long, glabrous, lax; phyllaries 5–6, olive-green or reddish-purple, 7.5–9 mm long.. Ray florets 0; disc florets dull brownish or pinkish yellow or dull yellow, corolla 7–8.2 mm long, tube glabrous, slightly expanded in upper part, lobes 1 mm long.. Achenes 4.5 mm long, obtusely ribbed, glabrous; pappus 5–7 mm long.
