Perennial herb with several erect stems 0.3–2 m high arising from a tuberous rootstock to 10 cm long and 5 cm in diameter; stem glabrous, sometimes reddish near base.. Leaves sessile, somewhat succulent, oblanceolate, elliptic or lanceolate, 5.5–22 cm long, 2–7.5 cm wide, the lower tapered into an exauriculate petioloid base, the median and upper tapered and exauriculate to ± cordate, semiamplexicaul auriculate base, margins remotely obscurely to coarsely sinuate-dentate, sinuate-bidentate to sinuate-crenate, apex obtuse to rounded, shortly acuminate-apiculate, glabrous.. Capitula discoid, several to many in usually dense, long-stalked terminal compound corymbs; involucre cylindrical, 5.5–9.5 mm long, 2.5–3 mm in diameter; bracts of calyculus 2–4, narrowly lanceolate, 2–4 mm long; phyllaries 8–13, yellow-green or yellow distally, 5–9 mm long.. Ray florets 0; disc florets yellow or orange, corolla 5–7 mm long, tube glabrous, expanded above the middle, lobes 0.7–1.2 mm long.. Achenes 3.5–4 mm long, ribbed, hairy; pappus 4.5–6 mm long.
