Characteristics

Prostrate or ± erect shrublet, up to 0.5 m high, hairs sessile, stellate. Prickles laterally compressed, recurved, broad-based, ± yellow, up to 4 mm long. Stems glabrescent. Leaves elliptic, up to 60 x 30 mm, deeply lobed, base ± cuneate, unequal, glabrescent above; petioles up to 10 mm long. Inflorescence ± sessile, 2-or 3-flowered. Calyx up to 3 mm long, lobes ± lanceolate, hairy and prickly outside, larger in fruit. Corolla 10 mm in diam., up to 6 mm long, lobes ovate, hairy outside, white. Flowering time Dec.-Feb. Fruit globose, up to 10 mm in diam., ripening orange-red, glabrous, shiny. Seeds light brown, finely pitted, round, compressed, 2.5 mm in diam.
