Characteristics

Erect shrub to 1 m, green, pubescent with minute stellate hairs; hairs sparse on upper leaf-surface, dense on lower surface; prickles to 1 cm long, usually scattered on stems, less common or absent elsewhere. Leaves hastate but variable; lamina mostly 4–6 cm long, 2–4 cm wide, discolorous, usually with 2–4 lobes towards base; petiole 10–15 mm long. Inflorescence 3–12-flowered; peduncle to 5 mm long; rachis 5–25 mm long, pedicels 5–6 mm long. Calyx 2–4 mm long, sometimes larger; lobes triangular or lanceolate, 1–3 mm long. Corolla stellate, 10–20 mm diam., pale lilac or white. Anthers 3–5 mm long. Berry globular, 5–9 mm diam., bright red, drying blackish. Seeds 3–5 mm long, pale yellow.
