Characteristics

Sprawling, probably short-lived shrub to 1 m across, pale green or yellow-green, densely pubescent with stellate hairs; prickles to 10 mm long, abundant on stems, petioles and inflorescence, sparse or absent elsewhere. Leaves ovate to ovate-lanceolate; lamina 3–8 cm long, 2–4 cm wide, sometimes larger, slightly discolorous, entire to undulate, occasionally shallowly lobed; petiole 1–4 cm long. Inflorescence short, 1–3–flowered; peduncle absent or to 10 mm long; pedicels 5–10 mm long. Calyx 10–12 mm long; lobes linear, 4–7 mm long. Corolla rotate, 15–20 mm diam., purple. Anthers 3 mm long. Berry globular to depressed globular, 15–20 mm diam., dull yellow-green, drying brown. Seeds 2–2.5 mm long, dark grey-brown.
