Characteristics

Shrub, up to 2 m high; indumentum of stalked, stellate hairs. Prickles straight, narrow, up to 10 mm long, ± yellow. Leaves elliptic, up to 80 x 30 mm long, base unequal, sinuately 5-7-lobed, lower side densely hairy; petioles up to 20 mm long. Inflorescence racemose, 4-8-flowered; pedicels up to 12 mm long. Calyx 9 mm long, deeply lobed, lobes lanceolate, hairy and prickly outside. Corolla: lobes ovate-lanceolate, up to 12 mm long, mauve to purple, ± hairy outside. Flowering time Aug.-Apr. Fruit globose, up to 10 mm in diam., glabrous, shiny, ripening orange-red. Seeds ± round, flattened, up to 4 mm in diam., finely pitted, yellowish.
