Trees, to 16 m tall and 12 cm d.b.h.; stems densely ferruginous-sericeous or ferruginous-tomentose when young, soon glabrous, the leaf scars conspicuous. Leaves opposite, thin, elliptic to oblong-elliptic, mostly rounded and abruptly acuminate at the apex, sometimes gradually acuminate, attenuate at the base, 9.0-14.5 cm long, 3.0-8.5 cm wide, glabrous above except for a few scattered trichomes on the midrib and the surface, drying shiny above, glabrous and shiny below except relatively densely appressed-pubescent on the midrib, the midrib drying almost flat above, raised beneath; primary lateral veins 7-9 pairs, directed almost straight toward the margins, becoming ramified and loop-connected before the margin, beneath drying scarcely more conspicuous than the prominulous ter-tiary veins, the margins often weakly revolute; petioles 1.5-2.0 cm long, densely pubescent like the stems, eglandular. Inflorescences spiciform, axillary, pendent, the axis stout, to more than 30 cm long, the branches short, ca. 1 cm long, the axes, branches, and peduncles densely ferruginous-tomentose; bracts small, ovate, eglandular; peduncles 3-4 mm long; pedicels 5-8 mm long; bracteoles minute with a stalked axillary gland, the gland ca. 1 mm long, the stalk flattened but thickened medially, sparsely pubescent, the gland discoid, ca. 5 mm wide. Flowers to 1.5 cm diam.; sepals glandular, oblong-ellipsoid, rounded at the apex, sparsely pubescent, the glands 8 or 9, oblong or oval, 2.5-4.0 mm long; petals pink, clawed, orbicular or obovate, 3-4 mm long, the claw 2.0-3.5 mm long; stamens 10, the filaments connate basally. Fruits not seen.
