Herb, annual or biennial, with usually slender taproot. Branches ± decumbent from base. Leaves 10–30 (–45) mm long, 0.4–1 mm wide, mucronate or shortly caudate, usually glabrous. Stipules acute to acuminate, sometimes furcate, (1.5–) 2–4 mm long, connate for less than half their length. Inflorescence often densely flowered, with upper branches becoming monochasial, appearing racemose and one-sided, with dense glandular hairs (0.15–) 0.3–0.4 (–0.8) mm long. Flowering pedicels mostly shorter than or equal to sepals, occasionally longer in fruit. Sepals narrowly oblong, 2–3.5 mm long (mostly 3.5–5 mm long in fruit); pale to dark purple basal spots present or absent. Petals (1.6–) 2–2.5 (–3.2) mm long, white, or pink inside. Stamens (0–) 2–5 (–10). Capsules ovoid to subglobose, usually 2–4 mm long, as long as sepals or rarely somewhat longer. Seeds broadly pyriform, 0.35–0.55 (–0.6) mm long, pale olive-brown, rarely darker, smooth to finely papillose, wingless.

Lvs not fascicled, somewhat fleshy, linear, mucronate, the lower glabrous, the upper with glandular hairs, (3)-5-12-(15) × 0.5-0.8 mm. Stipules greyish, not silvery, shortly connate, not forming a sheath, triangular to ovate, acute, 2-2.5 × 1-1.5 mm. Infl. a racemoid monochasium, many-flowered. Pedicels 1.5-3 mm long, < sepals. Sepals with glandular hairs, obtuse, 2.5-3.5 mm long; margins scarious. Petals white or pink, < sepals. Stamens (0)-2-5-(8). Capsule < sepals. Seeds ovate, brown, finely papillate, 0.4-0.5 mm long, not winged.
Slender perennial with many, much-branched, glandular stems up to 0.23 m long. Leaves 12-15 mm long, glandular, awned; stipules triangular. Flowers 2 mm in diam., in elongated, unilateral cymes; sepals densely glandular, a little longer than capsule; petals pink, ± as long as sepals. Flowering time summer. Seeds cuneiform, wingless, brownish.
