Characteristics

Leaves ± erect, 1.2–10 cm. x 1–3.5 mm., linear, acute at apex, narrowed at the base, somewhat coriaceous, glabrous save for the minutely scabrid-ciliolate margin; stipule sheath glabrous or densely pubescent, at flowering nodes funnel-shaped with 5–7 fimbriae 0.3–2 mm. long, at sterile nodes with 0–3 fimbriae up to 0.8 mm. long.

Flowers in small terminal heads and sometimes also at penultimate node; bracts stipuliform with a triangular median lobe and one lanceolate lateral lobe on each side; bracteoles fimbrifonn, 6 x 0.5 mm., hyaline, brown-lined and ciliolate.
Calyx tube 2 mm. long, obconic, glabrous; lobes 2–4, 2 linear 4.5 x 0.6 mm., ciliolate and 0–2 linear, hyaline, 2 mm. long or with no lobes but limb reduced to numerous fimbriae 1 mm. long.
Corolla tube white, 7 mm. long, funnel-shaped, glabrous outside but with a ring of hairs inside at the middle; lobes pale blue, 3 x 1.8 mm., with a few hairs at the apex.
Perennial herb 20–55 cm. tall with strict caespitose erect obtusely 4-angled glabrous or shortly pubescent stems from a woody many-headed rootstock.
Style exserted 3 mm.; stigma biglobose, 0.9 mm. wide.
Filaments exserted 1.8 mm.
