Deciduous terrestrial orchids growing singly or in loose groups. Leaf single, basal, petiolate, glabrous, ground-hugging, fully developed at flowering time. Raceme from leaf base, few-to multi-flowered; peduncle thin, wiry, yellowish brown, base narrowest, thickened distally, with 1 sterile bract. Flowers resupinate, dull-coloured (brownish yellow), insectiform. Tepals inconspicuous, mostly reflexed behind ovary. Dorsal sepal free, larger than lateral sepals. Lateral sepals free. Petals free, much narrower than sepals. Labellum hinged by short claw to underside of column foot, projecting out like an insectiform lure. Labellum lamina unlobed, simple, with rod-like basal stalk. Callus insectiform, dominating labellum, fleshy, covered with multi-celled, spiky, clubbed, hair-like structures (the whole structure resembles a female wasp with the labellum lamina hooked forward like a stinger). Column slender, curved in semi-circle, with 2 unequal pairs of long, slender, curved wings (1 pair above anther); largest wings barbed. Pollinia 4, bilobed, mealy, yellow, no viscidium.
