Characteristics

Shrub 0.7–2 m high, subscandent. Stem tetragonal, puberulous. Leaves petiolate; petiole 5–20 mm long; lamina ovate-elliptic, 50–100 mm long, 25–60 mm wide, cuneate at base, crenately serrate, sparsely hairy. Spikes 400–800 mm long, 5–6 mm diam. (without open flowers); bracts oblong-ovate, acuminate, 8–9 mm long, c. 2 mm wide. Calyx sunken in rhachis furrow, 9–10 mm long, unequally 4-toothed, pubescent outside. Corolla bright blue to dark violet; tube cylindrical, curved, 12–15 mm long, glabrous outside, villous inside; limb to 15 mm diam. Stamens inserted in corolla throat. Ovary elliptic-oblong, glabrous; style slightly protruding, 12–14 mm long. Fruit oblong, ±cylindrical, c. 4 mm long.
