Leaves few, terminal below inflorescence, the outer 1.7-4.5 cm long, the inner 1-2 cm long and ribbed; bases brown, scarious. Peduncle very short; spike 3-4 mm wide, with 10-20 flowers; outer bracts obovate, acute, 1-3 mm long, scarious, colourless; inner bracts obovate-linear, acute, 2-3 mm long; bracteoles linear, 4-5 mm long. Perianth 4-5 mm long, pale purple or cream.
