Characteristics

Plant rhizomatous, tufted, to 40 cm tall. Aerial stems absent. Leaves numerous, radical, 15-40 cm long; bases brown, scarious. Scape 15-22 cm long, usually as long as leaves; spike c. 6 mm long, to 8 mm wide, with 20-52 flowers; outer bracts ovate-triangular, acute, 1-3 mm long, scarious, colourless or pale purple; inner bracts cucullate-linear, acute, c. 3 mm long; bracteoles linear, c. 3 mm long. Perianth 4-5 mm long, pale purple with a darker central stripe.
