Characteristics

Erect or spreading shrub (0.2–) 0.3–0.6 m high (reportedly up to 1.4 m high, fide Rye 2007: 374), with a dense indumentum of rusty stellate and simple hairs on young stems, leaf margin and veins. Leaves: lamina broadly obovate, 3–9 mm long, 2.5–5 mm wide, cuneate base, flat margin, obtuse to emarginate with recurved tip at apex, mostly folded, upper surface green, papillose-tuberculate, lower surface densely grey silky with longer hairs along veins; petiole 1–2.5 mm long; stipules triangular, 2.3–4 mm long, free or connate at base. Inflorescences 3–15 mm wide, sometimes subtended by whitish floral leaves. Flowers densely pubescent or villous with stellate and simple hairs. Hypanthium tube 1–3.2 mm long, 1–1.4 mm diam. Sepals 1.5–2 mm long. Petals 0.6–0.9 mm long, shortly clawed. Stamens 0.5–0.6 mm long. Disc not apparent. Ovary roof glabrous; style 2.2–3.5 (–4.3) mm long. Fruit 2–2.5 mm long. Seeds c. 1.3 mm long.
