Characteristics

Root tuberous, subglobose, c. 25 cm diam. Leaves: petiole 2.5–11 cm long, inserted 25–30 mm from basal lamina margin; lamina broadly ovate, 4.5–13 cm long, 5–14 cm wide, slightly cordate at base, rounded at apex, minutely papillose below, drying submembranous. Male inflorescence a peduncled dense head of flowers, barely 1 cm long. Female inflorescence similar to male, 1–1.8 cm long. Male flowers: pedicel c. 0.3 mm long; sepals 6, 0.75 mm long, externally minutely papillose; petals 3, 0.6 mm long; synandrium 0.5 mm long. Female flowers: pedicel thick, c. 1 mm long; sepals and petals c. 1 mm long; carpel 1.3–1.5 mm long. Drupe (fide F.M. Bailey, Queensland Agric. J. 24: 221 (1910)) flattened-pyriform, 6 mm long.
