Characteristics

Perennial herb, 0.4–0.7 m high, rhizomatous; stems rounded, moderately to sparsely hairy, glandular. Leaves mostly opposite, sometimes in whorls of 3 or alternate, ± sessile, lanceolate, 12–23 mm long, 3–6 mm wide, entire, acute; both surfaces with a few glandular hairs, gland-dotted. Capitula 1.5–3 mm diam., in terminal corymbs; involucral bracts oblanceolate, 5–6 mm long, acute. Florets 4 or 5 per head, c. 10 mm long, white or pinkish. Achenes 3–4 mm long, dark brown to black, striate, with occasional short hairs. Pappus of 3 minutely barbellate bristles 5–6 mm long, alternating with 3 short ovate hyaline scales.
