Corolla narrowly tubular funnel-shaped, pubescent at the throat; lobes short, valvate; limited heterostyly occurs.
Calyx tube oblong or obconic; limb-tube tubular with 5 erect lanceolate lobes with minute intercalary lobes.
Erect woody herbs or shrubs, the stems sparsely branched and ultimate stems robust and unbranched.
Anthers ± sessile, inserted below the throat, linear-oblong, included, apiculate; pollen 4-porate.
Leaves large, elliptic; stipules conspicuous, leafy, deciduous.
Fruits subglobose or obovoid, fleshy, many-seeded.
