Stem erect, rather stout, not much branched; branches slightly pubescent when young; leaves opposite, imbricate, elliptic, acute, minutely scaberulous, 4-5 lin. long, 1.5 lin. wide; flowers in the axils of the leaves a long way down the branches; bracteoles oblong, obtuse, ciliate, 2 lin. long; calyx-tube 8 lin. long, glabrous, subcylindrical, slightly curved; lobes almost rotundate, obtuse, 1 lin. long; petals 8, oblong, thick, 0.67 lin. long, surrounded by hairs of about equal length; anthers with obtuse connective above the cells; ovary oblong, glabrous; style filiform, 6 lin. long; stigma penicillate.
