Characteristics

Branches usually decumbent, slender, tetragonal or terete with prominent leaf-scars, glabrous, sometimes with small tufts of hairs below the insertion of the leaves.

Calyx tube (5)6–8(9) mm long, glabrous; lobes cuneate-lanceolate, the outer c. 2 × 0.5–0.8 mm, the inner c. 1.5 × 0.2–0.4 mm, glabrous.
Petals 8, fleshy, c. 0.5 mm long, narrow oblong, reddish, the surrounding hairs slightly longer.
Ovary ovoid, glabrous; disk cupuliform, membranous; style a little shorter than the tube.
Anthers nearly sessile, c. 1 mm long, introrse, included; pollen c. 20 m in diameter.
Flowers greenish-white, yellow, pink or reddish, with a whorl of hairs at the base.
Bracteoles (2)3–4.5 mm long, lanceolate, acute, glabrous, sparsely ciliate.
Lamina (3)5–7(9) × 1–1.2 mm, lanceolate, acute, glabrous, usually striate.
