Characteristics

Scandent shrub without spines.. Ultimate branchlets brown-puberulous, often dark-coloured; older branchlets pale brown, striate; lenticels not or scarcely visible; tendrils occasional, simple.. Leaves petiolate; petiole 4–7 mm. long; blade membranous, elliptic, ovate or narrowly obovate, 2.5–10 cm. long, 0.9–4.5 cm. wide, abruptly longly acuminate, cuneate or more rarely rounded at the base, dull-surfaced, glabrous except for a few brown hairs at base of midrib beneath, strongly 3-nerved from the base and sometimes with a fainter submarginal pair; tertiary venation close, spreading ± at right angles to the midrib; nerves all prominent except for impressed midrib above.. Cymes axillary and terminal, lax, spreading, pedunculate, 1.5–2.5 cm. long, bracteate, thinly pubescent with brown hairs.. Flowers 5-merous, bracteolate.. Calyx-lobes ovate to broadly ovate, 1.5 mm. long, 1 mm. broad, rounded to subacute, ciliate.. Corolla white or greenish; tube about 1–2 mm. long, glabrous; lobes oblong, 2.5–3 mm. long, densely pilose within.. Stamens inserted in the sinuses of the corolla-lobes, well exserted; filaments about 1.2–1.7 mm. long; anthers oblong, about 1 mm. long, glabrous.. Ovary ovoid, about 1 mm. long, pilose; style about 2.5 mm. long, pilose.. Fruit not seen.
