Scrambling shrub or small tree to 6 m; super-axillary spines to 15 mm long sometimes present; tendrils absent; stems with minute spreading papillose hairs (less than 25 µm long). Leaves with petioles less than 4 mm long; lamina broadly ovate, 3.8–6.5 cm long, 2.4–5.2 cm wide; both surfaces with minute spreading papillose hairs to rarely glabrous; minor veins inconspicuous. Inflorescences axillary, crowded to open, 25–40 mm long, pubescent. Calyx 1 mm long; outer surface densely papillose. Corolla salverform, 2.5–3.5 mm long, 3/5-connate, aromatic, white; outer surface densely papillose, with scattered hairs in basal region; inner surface with a line of long bristle-like hairs at mouth; lobes thickened. Stamens inserted in upper half of corolla tube. Gynoecium c. 1.5 mm long, glabrous. Fruits globular, c. 9 mm diam., orange-brown, smooth. Seeds usually 1 per fruit, orbicular, 8 mm long, glabrous.
Recorded between latitudes 13°40'S and 25°30'S in semi-evergreen and deciduous vine forest (often with Araucaria), dry rainforest and mixed sclerophyll forest; frequently on limestone-or granite-derived soils, also in red soils, steep talus slopes and riverine sites.
