Characteristics

Standard oblong, shorter than the keel, curved when seen in profile, emarginate, slightly narrowed to the base, with the margins usually reflexed above; wings clawed, auriculate, the auricle shorter than to almost as long as the claw; keel clawed, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, auriculate, the claws connate except at the base.

Ovary stipitate, many-ovuled, glabrous or rarely villous; style curved, laterally bearded along the upper side, sometimes with a tuft of hairs just below the small capitate stigma on one side.
Stamens in a sheath open on the upper side; vexillary stamen free; stamen tube about 3 times as long as the free portion of the filaments; anthers equal, oblong.
Shrubs up to 2 m high, rarely dwarf shrubs 10–20 cm high.
Leaves imparipinnate; stipules small, ovate, joined.
Seeds black, flattened, with well developed funicle.
Calyx campanulate, 5-lobed; lobes ovate.
